Although there are many important lesions, most lameness protocols are based on data from digital dermatitis, sole ulcer, white line disease, toe necrosis/apical syndrome, and sole hemorrhage. Early identification of lesions permits early treatment, which significantly reduces the recovery period.
The incidence of lameness in pastured dairy cattle in New Zealand is extremely low; the risk factors associated with housing do not exist in that country. Pasture management is also common in Chile.
