Incomplete Longitudinal Fractures of the Plantar Aspect of the Third Metatarsal Bone in Horses

Stress reaction and incomplete longitudinal fractures of the plantar aspect of the third metatarsal bone may occur due to stress-related bone injury at the origin of the suspensory ligament. These are usually associated with increased uptake of radionuclide on bone scintigraphy and are clearly demonstrable on MRI.
